MSS Weekly Update: September 25-29, 2023

Good morning parents/guardians,

Another 4 day week ahead with September 29 being a Non-Operational Day.  We are very fortunate to have outdoor space access for our HPE program.  We use them as much as possible when the weather is agreeable.  Students need to be prepared to go outside for Phys. Ed (either AM or PM) and at lunchtime.  Please make sure that your child(ren) are prepared for the weather.

Important Dates

  • Monday, September 25:
  • Principal Advisory Group (Parent Council) and Enrichment Society Meeting.
      • 5:00pm at MSS.
  • Tuesday, September 26:
    • Grade 7 All Day Field Trips / Leighton Art Centre.
      • Homeroom 72.
      • Signed forms need to be returned for students to participate.
  • Wednesday, September 27:
    • Grade 7 All Day Field Trips / Leighton Art Centre.
      • Homeroom 73 & 74.
        • Signed forms need to be returned for students to participate.
  • Thursday, September 28:
    • Grade 7 All Day Field Trips / Leighton Art Centre.
      • Homeroom 71 & 75.
        • Signed forms need to be returned for students to participate.
    • Orange Shirt Day at MSS.
      • All students, staff, and visitors are encouraged to wear orange.
      • National Day for Truth & Reconciliation is September 30.
  • Friday, September 29:
    • Non-Instructional Day: No School for Students.

MSS School Apparel / Swag Store

Our online school apparel store opens Monday, September 18th!  There is a large variety of clothing options for students and adults with our new name a logo.  The store will close on Sunday, October 8.  Orders will be shipped directly to the school and will be delivered to students approx. 3-4 weeks after the store closes on October 8th.

The online store will open again in February and May 2024.

MSS Picture Day

Picture Day for all students and staff will be Tuesday, October 10.  If students are absent on this day, retakes will take place in November.

Gr. 6 Immunizations

Public health nurses will be at MSS on Wednesday, October 11 for Gr. 6 immunizations.  Only students with signed and returned parental/guardian consent forms will be participating.

Athletics Update

Basketball games start this week.  Soccer and Cross-Country Running are also in season.  Please ensure that you are checking the athletics web page for practice/game schedules and any updates.

***Basketball Spectator Policy/Expectations at Marshall Springs***

Please note the following for all games played at Marshall Springs School.

·                     Marshall Springs Students:

o   MSS students will be able to view the first game (4:30pm start) without parent/guardian supervision.

§  Students are to remain in the main gym watching the game.

o   Once the first game is complete, school administration will direct all students without a parent/guardian to leave the building.

o   MSS students will need to be directly supervised by a parent/guardian if they would like to stay and/or return at any point after the first game is complete.

o   MSS students are expected to be in the main gym watching the game(s) and supporting all players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner.

§  Any student who is not meeting the CBE Student Code of Conduct will be escorted out of the gym and school and may lose future viewing privileges at MSS.

·                     Parents/guardians:

o   All parents/guardians are welcome to attend all games at MSS.

o   Parents/guardians who bring family members under the age of 18 are expected to supervise their child(ren) in the main gym.

o   All parents/guardians are expected to cheer/support all players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians in a positive manner.

§  If parents/guardians are engaging in any inappropriate behaviour directed towards players/coaches/referees/parents/guardians, the game will be paused and the parent/guardian will be asked to stop.  If the inappropriate behaviour continues, the game will be stopped again and will not re-start until the parent/guardian leaves the gym and school property. If removed, the parent/guardian may lose future viewing privileges at MSS.

·       Our main goal is to provide a safe and fun opportunity for students.

  • The players are kids.

·       The coaches are volunteers.

·       The referees are human.

·       There will be no scholarships or professional contracts handed out at the end of the night.

·                     Students from other schools (non-players):

o   Will not be admitted into the school, for any game(s), unless accompanied by a parent/guardian who stays for the duration of the time the student is in the building.
