Good morning parents/guardians,

On behalf of MSS staff, I’d like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and all the best in 2024!  It will be great to have students and staff return on January 8 for a full week of learning at MSS.

It appears that true winter weather will be returning mid-week with temperatures dropping into the -20C range (and colder) with snow.  Please ensure that your child(ren) are prepared for the weather.  A couple reminders:

• Monday-Friday: doors to the school open at 820am.
• Students will be encouraged to stay inside for lunch when temperatures (including wind-chill) fall below -20C.

  • Classes resume for all MSS Students.
  • Sr. Girls (Gr. 9) Volleyball Try-Outs: 315pm in Main Gym.
• Tuesday, January 9:
  • Sr. Boys (Gr. 9) Volleyball Try-Outs: 315pm in Main Gym.
• Wednesday, January 10:
  • Gr. 8 PE Field Trip: Skiing at WinSport.
  • Jr. Girls (Gr. 6,7,8) Volleyball Try-Outs: 315pm in Main Gym.
• Thursday, January 11:
  • Jr. Boys (Gr. 6,7,8) Volleyball Try-Outs: 315pm in Main Gym.
• Monday, January 15:
  • Non-Instructional Day – NO School for students.

Athletics Update

Volleyball season runs from January 8 – March 24, 2024.  Tryouts will begin this week and teams will be selected afterwards.  This year’s coaches are:

• Sr. Girls (Gr. 9): Ms. O’Lain.
• Sr. Boys (Gr. 9): Ms. Burden.
• Jr. Girls (Gr. 6,7,8): Ms. Penney.
• Jr. Boys (Gr. 6,7,8): Ms. Heal.

If a student, for any reason, will be missing a try-out, it is their responsibility to speak with the coach directly.  Students who do not attend try-outs will not be considered for team selection.

Wrestling season continues with practices and meets.

MyCBE / PowerSchool Account – Report Cards

As in previous years, paper copies of report cards are no longer printed.  Semester 1 report cards will be available for viewing in your MyCBE / PowerSchool Account on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

A MyCBE / Powerschool account provides parents/guardians and students seamless access to information and transactions using a modern and effective technology platform. Parents/guardians have online access to:

• view their children’s academic information (schedule, grades and attendance).
• register for transportation and noon supervision.
• pay fees and request fee waivers.
• book school conferences.
