Good morning MSS families,

Thank you for your support during a busy week. We had the Terry Fox run, Orange Shirt Day, hosted soccer games, hosted basketball games, and hosted a basketball tournament this past weekend. We are proud to offer so many great opportunities for students at MSS and could not do it without your support. Three (3) days of learning ahead this week as Monday, September 29 is a non-instructional day and Tuesday, September 30 is a non-operational day. Regular classes for all MSS students resume on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Lockdown Practice Drill #1 - Friday, October 3

Teachers will be reviewing structures, processes, and expectations with students next week. Calgary Police (CPS) will be onsite to support with the practice drill. Lockdown practice drills are to be taken seriously - students are expected to follow directions, keep their hands and feet to themselves, and remain quiet for the duration of the drill. Lockdown practice drills take ~30-45 minutes to complete.

Potential Labour Action/Disruption

MSS is "business as usual" until further updates and information are provided. Updates to the bargaining process can be located on the CBE homepage which can be accessed HERE.

Please also ensure that you have subscribed to receive email communication from the CBE and MSS.

Healthy Hunger Fridays

Friday Fun Snacks are back! If you wish to participate in this optional service, you need to create an account through healthyhunger.ca (Returning families will need to update/add child(ren)s new homeroom.) Snacks will be distributed to classes prior to the Nutrition Break at 10:55am. This is a parent volunteer run program - if you are able to help please get in touch. Any questions can be directed to mssfunlunch@gmail.com.

Demographic Form Completion

Demographic forms are now OVERDUE and are to be completed through your MyCBE account. Incomplete demographic forms can have a NEGATIVE impact on our school budget for the 2025-2026...it is imperative these are completed ASAP. If you require assistance, please call the school at 403-817-3528.

MSS Online Swag Store

Our online clothing/swag store will be open from September 22 - October 5, 2025. We have a wide variety of t-shirts, hoodies, zip-up hoodies, sweats with our MSS logo and colours. Orders will be shipped directly to the school and delivered to students during the last week of October or the first week of November. Grab some swag and show your MSS school pride!

Family and Caregiver Communication

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community.

Below is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available on the Child and Youth Family and Caregiver Series public facing page.

Athletics Update

Soccer and Basketball practices and games will continue/start this week. Dates, times, and locations for all practices and games can be located on our athletics page.

MSS Yearbook 2025-2026

Submit your art for a chance to be featured on the cover or inside the 2025-2026 Yearbook!

Requirements:

-     Regular size (8.5”x 11”) paper.

-     Must include the school name Marshall Springs.

-     Use of our logo and mascot is encouraged (River Wolves).

-     Must include the year 2025-2026.

-     Full colour.

-     Flat (do not add elements that stick off the page).

-     Appropriate, polished work.

Include your name and grade (can be on the front or back, your choice- you will be credited for your work in the yearbook). Please submit your entry by November 1, 2025 to Mrs. Hartling in the Foods room (or her mailbox in the office).
