Good morning parents/guardians,
A four (4) day week of school ahead as Friday, September 27 is a Non-Instructional Day (no classes for MSS) students. Please also note that Monday, September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a Non-Operational Day and the school will be closed. Classes for all MSS students will resume on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
The weather looks great for this week. But, as we all know, mountain weather can change in a heartbeat. As we continue to use our tremendous outdoor spaces, please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather.

MSS Basketball Spectator Policy
Basketball games begin next week. We encourage all MSS students/families to support our teams as they compete. Please note the following spectator policy for Marshall Springs:
- MSS students will be welcomed to view the first game of the evening (430) without direct supervision from a parent/guardian.
- Students are expected to be in the main gym, positively supporting, and not on their phones/personal devices.
- Students who are unable to meet these expectations will be directed to leave.
- If MSS students want to stay for any combination of the remaining games (530, 630, 730) they need to be directly supervised by a parent/guardian.
- MSS students who do not have direct parent/guardian supervision will not have access to the building after the first game is complete.
- Inappropriate behaviour by any spectator will be addressed by school admin. If it occurs a second time, the game will be stopped and the spectator will be directed to leave the school, not just the gym. If the spectator refuses to leave, the team connected to that spectator will forfeit.
Depending on the issue, a trespass warning may be issued to that student/parent/guardian.
The other 11 schools in our division have similar spectator policies. In order for MSS students to attend games at other schools, they will need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian or they will not have access to the building.
Orange Shirt Day
On Thursday, September 26, MSS students and staff will recognize and honour Orange Shirt Day. All staff, students, and visitors to the building are encouraged to wear something orange on this day. There will be numerous Orange Shirt Day themed activities for students to participate in on Thursday.

MSS Terry Fox Run & Fundraising | #TerryFoxSchoolRun
This year, MSS is proudly taking part in the annual Terry Fox School Run to continue Terry's dream of a world without cancer. It has been 44 years since Terry’s Marathon of Hope, and we are proud to be carrying on this tradition at our school. Despite the challenges that Terry faced, he never quit in his effort to help others suffering from cancer, no matter what. For this year's Terry Fox School Run, we are going to try our very best, no matter what, just like Terry did. Please support our school's fundraising efforts today! Marshall Springs support of this event will include:
- A homeroom challenge Terry Fox Run in Physical Education on either Friday, September 6th or 13th.
- A whole school Terry Fox run on Friday, September 20th.
- Homeroom fundraising “Toonie for Terry.”
In the spirit of encouraging our ability to raise funds to support the Terry Fox Foundation, homerooms will compete against each other in combining their PE run homeroom km totals and total HR funds raised.
Donations will be collected on Friday, September 20th, in Marshall Time, or the safest and easiest way to fundraise is to donate online to individual homerooms through our school page found here https://schools.terryfox.ca/73088 . Donations made online over $20.00 receive a donation tax receipt. Links to each homeroom's individual fundraising page will be posted in student HPE or PE&W Google classrooms.
