Preparing Children for Back-to-School

Getting back into a school routine is a big deal for students after having an eight (8) week holiday. To increase levels of success for returning to school, parents/guardians should consider the following:

  • Establishing a Sleep Routine.
  • Reducing Screen Time.
    • The CBE/MSS have no personal device policies during instructional hours.
  • Proper Nutrition Habits.
    • School takes a great deal of energy. Staying hydrated and eating properly are keys to success.
  • Review Appropriate School Behaviours.
    • CBE Student Code of Conduct
      • Be kind to everyone (students and staff).
      • Review that "no" means no and "stop" means stop.
      • Don't touch other people - keep your hands/feet to yourself.
      • Don't touch other people's belongings.
      • Respect the building - clean up after yourself.
      • Respect school property - don't abuse technology, equipment, supplies.

      • Have a back-up-plan (Emergency Contacts).
      • Know the route in advance.
      • Stay on sidewalks/walk-ways/pathways.
      • Don't run/walk/ride into streets. Cross streets at defined intersections and cross-walks.
      • Lock your bike/scooter securely. The school is not responsible for stolen bikes/scooters etc.
    • Parent/Guardian Drop-off, Pick-Up.
      • DO NOT park in designated school bus zones.
      • DO NOT speed through designated school zones.

Welcome Homeroom (HR) Phone Calls/Emails - Thursday, August 28

All MSS students/parents/guardians will receive a welcoming phone call from their HR teacher during the afternoon of Thursday, August 28. During this brief conversation, students will find out who their HR teacher is and what they can expect on Tuesday, September 2. If there is no answer, the HR teacher will leave a message and follow up with an email.

Student Schedules, HRs, and Classes

Students will receive their classes and schedules and find out who their teachers and classmates are on Tuesday, September 2.

***Due to our current student count being over projections and a continued increase in NEW student registrations - requests for homeroom changes are not being accepted***.

We must ensure that all students have a homeroom, core classes, and option classes before moves/changes are considered. Further information regarding requests for OPTION changes will be communicated to families during the first week of school.

Athletics at MSS

MSS is proud to participate in all seven (7) athletic events offered in the middle school athletics (CMLSAA) calendar. Soccer, Cross-Country Running, and Basketball start the year off followed by Wrestling, Volleyball, Badminton, and Track & Field.  We encourage all students to get involved in our extra-curricular program, whether it is interscholastic or intramural, to enhance their physical, social, and emotional development. Students interested in interscholastic athletics must have completed the CBE annual athletic authorization form.

  • ALL Gr. 6,7,8,9 students are able to participate in CMLSAA athletic activities.
  • No-Cut Teams at MSS: Cross-Country Running, Wrestling, Track & Field.
  • Teams that make cuts at MSS: Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton.
