Good morning parents/guardians,
Thank you to all students, staff, and parents/guardians for your support of the changes to our school structure that are starting on Monday, November 4, 2024. We are very happy to welcome Ms. Zheng and Mr. Jarrett into Gr. 6/7, and Ms. Cruickshank as an educational assistant.
The weather next week looks to bring positive temperatures which is great for November! It will still be cold in the mornings...please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather as we continue to use our great outdoor spaces for learning.

Fall Break
MSS will be closed from November 9-13, 2024 for fall break. The last day of regular classes for students is Thursday, November 7. Friday. November 8 is a non-instructional day for students. Regular classes resume on Thursday, November 14, 2024.

Picture Retake Day
Retakes for students who require them and/or students who missed picture day are on Tuesday, November 5. Announcements will be made throughout the day inviting students to the fitness room to have retakes completed.
MSS School Council / Enrichment Society Meeting
Our next meeting is Monday, November 4 at 6:00pm @ MSS in the staff room. Main entrances doors will open at 5:45pm. Items to be discussed:
- Current demographics, class sizes, school updates.
- Homeroom restructuring.
- School Development Plan 2024-2025.
- Casino Night.
- Enrichment Society Funding Requests.
All members of the MSS community are welcome to join.
Staffing Update - Homeroom Restructuring
Our NEW homerooms (6-6, 7-6) will come into effect Monday, November 4, 2024. These changes will allow us to reduce class sizes, increase the number of targeted learning support sessions in Springs Time, and add more support to student learning needs in classrooms. All staff, students, and parents/guardians were notified of these changes last week by school administration.
Please join me in welcoming:
- Ms. Cruickshank - Educational Assistant.
- Ms. Zheng - Grade 6/7 Humanities, Grade 6 PEW. Homeroom 7-6.
- Mr. Jarrett - Grade 6/7 Math/Science, Grade 7 HPE. Homeroom 6-6.
All Grade 6 & 7 students are to report to their P1 class on Monday. P1 teachers will have NEW schedules for the students who are moving to a NEW homerooms. School administration will then take these students to their NEW P1 class to begin their day. Options classes and lockers have not changed.
Thank you to all students/families who completed the reallocation survey and reached out with feedback. Current MSS teachers spent a great deal of time over the last two weeks creating these new homerooms managing many factors and dynamics as we made our new classes.
We are excited for these staffing additions and expect them to help us provide an even better learning experience for your children.
Athletics Update
Congratulations to the boys soccer team for their 2nd place finish in our division...not the result we were hoping for, but the boys worked hard, played well, and overall had a very successful season.
Wrestling practices and season of play opened this week. Practice and game schedules are posted on our athletics board near the main gym and can also be found on the athletics website.

Yearbooks (optional) are purchased directly through the Jostens website. Cost this year is $30. Please use the link below to order. Order deadline is Saturday, February 1, 2025.
