Good morning MSS families,
The upcoming week has two (2) days of in-person learning as students return from November break. Classes resume for all MSS students on Thursday, November 13. The long range forecast up to the middle of November looks great with lots of sun and + temperatures. As we know with mountain life, the weather can change quickly as we get to the winter months. Please ensure that your child(ren) are dressed for the weather.

Athletics Update - November 2025
Please see below for CBE updates regarding middle/junior high athletics:
Soccer
- The soccer season is officially over. There will be no completion of missed regular season or playoff games.
- If a division was able to fully complete all regular season games, the 1st place team would be designated division champion.
- If a division did not fully complete all regular season games, no division champion would be designated.
Basketball
- All remaining regular season and playoff games are cancelled. The tournament of champions (Sr. divisions only) has also been cancelled.
- There will be no champions and/or banners for this basketball season.
- Practices could resume, at coaches/schools discretion November 3-7, 2025.
- From November 13 - December 7 (last day of season), schools have the option to reach out to other schools in their division to set-up exhibition games. Schools that choose not to engage in exhibition games can run internal opportunities to support basketball for the remainder of the season.
- Specific team details and plans for MSS teams have been communicated to players. If you have any questions, please contact the coaches directly.
Wrestling
- Due to the season being shortened, MSS will be supporting wrestling internally. There will be practices and the potential for an in-house exhibition closer to the end of the wrestling season (December 19, 2025).
- Safety of participants is paramount. In speaking with our coaches, we do not believe there is enough time left in the season to properly train and condition student athletes for competition.
- There will be no divisional or competitive meets this season.
- Our emphasis will be on learning techniques, improving conditioning, and building sportsmanship in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
- All participants must have a signed permission form before taking part in practices.
All athletic events that will occur from January - June 2026 are moving forward as previously planned.

School conferences provide an important opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations about your child’s learning. Parents/guardians, students, and teachers are able to connect and communicate openly about areas of strength and growth. These discussions help build and sustain respectful relationships that support student success. Prior to your conference, please take time with your child to review PowerSchool for updated grades and Google Classroom for course content and topics, ensuring a focused and informed discussion. If possible, please include your child in the conference as their voice is vital to understanding the next steps in their learning.
Given the recent teacher strike and its impact on assessment timelines, teachers are continuing to update and analyze student data. While they will share available evidence of learning, we ask that families keep in mind that assessment information may still be in progress at this time. The focus of conferences will be on reconnecting, understanding current progress, and planning meaningful next steps to support each student’s continued growth.
We look forward to seeing you and your child at conferences and continuing our shared work in supporting their success.
Human Sexuality - "Opt" In Forms
Due to changes in legislation by the Alberta Government, schools are now required to received direct consent from parent/guardians in order for students to participating in human sexuality learning. A form was sent home with your child(ren) before the strike. Due to the break in learning, we have printed another copy that was sent home with your child(ren) last week. If your child(ren) returned the first form before the strike, you do not need to complete and return the new one.
This form must be signed and returned to the HR teacher in order for your child(ren) to participate. If a form is not returned and/or parents/guardians do not provide consent, alternate learning and assignments/tasks will be provided to students.
Grade 7-9: forms are due to HR teacher by November 27, 2025.
Grade 6: forms are still being finalized. They will be distributed at a later date.
