Good morning MSS families,
A lengthy update as we are down to the last 2 (two) weeks of school with lots going on to wrap up the year.
As we are getting closer to the end, we are seeing an increase in inappropriate student behaviors that are disrupting teaching and learning. All students were reminded of expectations last week and are expected to follow through until June 26. Constant disruptions to teaching and learning and/or inappropriate behaviors will result in students being removed from learning environments. We have lots to complete and celebrate over the next two weeks and need to ensure safe, caring, and welcoming learning environments to do so.

E-scooters / E-bikes / Scooters / Bikes / Skateboards
We have had a significant increase in the number of student requests to have E-scooters / E-bikes / scooters / bikes / skateboards stored in the office during the day. As of Monday, June 15 - this will no longer be an option for students. Our school property has two main areas for E-scooters / E-bikes / scooters / bikes / skateboards to be secured outside. There are numerous bike racks at the front of the school and also numerous bike racks, scooter racks, and skate board racks at the back of the school. Students are encouraged to secure their E-scooters / E-bikes / scooters / bikes / skateboards with a lock. The school is not responsible for lost/stolen items.

MSEC / MSS Casino Fundraiser - November 2026
Mark your calendars - our next casino fundraiser nights are November 1-2, 2026. MSS is fortunate to have MSEC (enrichment council) and a casino fundraiser ~every 18 months. In the past, casino fundraiser events have generated 70-80k for school use that has included technology for the school and various programs, lighting for the drama program, funding for field trips, equipment for Phys Ed. etc. This additional source of funds, outside our budget, is essential to continue providing the opportunities we do for students.
Please consider volunteering to support this event.

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs): Grade 6 & 9
In June of this year, Grade 6 and 9 students across the province will participate in the Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) using the Digital Assessment Platform (Vretta). Grade 6 and 9 students will complete PATs in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
- The dates of the assessments are as follows:
- Grade 6 (No Social Studies due to NEW curriculum).
- Math "A": Monday, June 15.
- Math "B": Thursday, June 18.
- Grade 9
- Math "A": Tuesday, June 16.
- Math "B": Friday, June 19.
- Social Studies: Monday, June 22.
- Science: Tuesday, June 23.
***Students who are absent on PAT days will complete the assessment when they return to school***
***PAT days are full school days - they are not early dismissal. If students are wanting to leave school after a PAT has been completed, they need to be excused by a parent/guardian. Please call the school at 403-817-3528 or email marshallsprings@cbe.ab.ca***
Results from these tests will provide Alberta Education, school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students and the public with information about what students know and can do in relation to provincial standards at the end of Grade 6 and 9. Provincial Achievement Tests are based on what students have been learning throughout the school year.
