Good morning MSS families,
We are rolling into a five (5) day week of learning ahead and some fantastic January temperatures in the long range forecast. There will be opportunities in HPE and Outdoor Ed to head outside and utilize our outdoor spaces. Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather.
Warmer weather in the winter is prime time for snowball making. We remind students daily that snow is to be left on the ground and throwing/kicking snow, in any capacity, is not to happen. We had a student injured this week as the result of a thrown snowball. There was no intent to harm in this situation, but the reality is that someone was injured. If the snow was left on the ground, as requested, this would not have happened. We will continue to remind students daily about behaviour expectations (including not throwing/kicking snow). Your support is greatly appreciated.

MSS School Council Grant - Parent/Guardian Survey
Hi Parents/Guardians! We need you input! Please complete this survey, it will take only 2 minutes to complete. Marshall Springs School Council received a grant from the CBE for the use of improving parent involvement and engagement. These funds may be applied towards the following activities:
- Workshops for parents to increase school council capacity;
- Parent resources (i.e. mental health, cyber bullying, healthy living etc.);
- Events to engage parents on important local issues;
- Conference fees;
- And more.

Centennial High School Open House
CHS will be holding their annual open house on Thursday, January 29, 2026. All current grade 9 MSS students who are designated to attend CHS for grade 10 are encouraged to attend with their parents/guardians. Doors open at 630pm with the formal program running from 700-900pm.
Dr. EP. Scarlett High School Open House
DEPS will be holding their annual open house on Thursday, January 29, 2026. All current grade 9 MSS students who are designated to attend DEPS for grade 10 are encouraged to attend with their parents/guardians. Doors open at 515pm with the formal program running from 530-730pm.
MSS & Papa Johns Pizza Fundraiser
Our next pizza fundraiser dates are Wednesday, January 21 and Wednesday, February 18. 15% of regular priced menu item orders comes back to MSS. These funds will support the wide variety of activities and events we are able to provide our students and community.
Athletics Update
Volleyball season runs from January 5 - March 22, 2026. MSS will have 2 teams in league play: 1 girls team (Gr. 6-9) and 1 boys team (Gr. 6-9). Try-outs and/or practices will continue this week.
These will be cut teams. For student-athletes not selected to play on these teams, there will be development opportunities run through HPE and lunch time activities.

Human Sexuality Consent Forms
Another gentle reminder that parental consent forms must be signed and returned for students to be able to participate in the human sexuality module of health and physical education. Forms for all grades were sent home multiple times before the winter holidays. Please returned the signed consent form to your Homeroom teacher ASAP. These modules will begin January 2026.
2025-2026 MSS Yearbook
Congratulations to our yearbook cover art winners! Our front cover winner is Sofia G. from 9-1 and our back cover winner is Yuan N. from Grade 9. Thank you to everyone who entered! All other art will be featured inside the yearbook. Original art will be returned later in the school year.
