Good morning MSS families,

A three (3) day week of learning ahead as the annual Calgary Teachers Convention takes place on February 12-13, 2026. During teachers convention, the school is closed and there are no classes for students. Although temperatures will be lower than last week, they still look to be on the plus side Monday-Wednesday. Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather.

Upcoming Dates

  • Monday, February 9:
    • Centennial Gr. 10 Registration at MSS.
      • Students designated to CHS need their completed and signed registration form.
      • If students do not have the completed form for the councilors on this date, they will need to take it directly to Centennial.
  • Tuesday, February 10:
    • Springs Time Cycle 2-2-5.
  • Wednesday, February 11:
    • Grade 6 options (H3) end.
  • February 12 & 13:
    • Teachers Convention - No classes for students.
  • Monday, February 16:
    • Family Day - School is closed.
  • Tuesday, February 17:
    • Classes resume for all MSS students.
    • Grade 6 options (H4) begin.

High School Registration - Current Grade 9 Students

Grade 9 students are designated to a high school based on the primary address of residency that we have on file.

***Centennial Registration***

Centennial completes high school registration on paper.  The registration form was sent home a couple weeks ago.  The form needed to be completed, signed by a parent/guardian, and returned to the homeroom teacher by Friday, February 6, 2026.  If students have lost their form, they need to see the office as we have extra copies. 

CHS councillors will be at MSS on Monday, February 9 to sit with students and enter the course selections and choices.  Students who do not have their completed and signed registration form on February 9 will need to take it directly to Centennial.

***Dr. E.P Scarlett Registration***

  • Student Services has been working with many of our feeder schools to support students with in-person visits. We visited many schools in November to focus on our school culture and extra-curricular opportunities and returned in January to discuss the course selection process.
  • The course selection process occurs online (no paper copies). Course selection is not first come first served, so please be assured that you have time to make thoughtful selections for options and core classes. The form will be open from January 26 – February 23.  Many important links are embedded within the document that will provide information on option classes and course sequencing.

MSS Athletics Update

There are no volleyball games scheduled this week due to Teachers Convention. Please visit the athletic webpage (volleyball) for upcoming practice and game dates.

Lost & Found - Unclaimed to be Donated to Charity

The amount of clothing, water bottles (including Stanley's & Owala's), and shoes is once again overflowing the Lost & Found. Any items not claimed by February 11 will be donated to a local charity the following week.

Volunteer Required - Grade 9 Band Festival

Ms. Biggar is looking for one more volunteer to support the grade 9 band festival on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Busses will be leaving MSS at 1:45pm and return at ~5:30pm. If you are interested and have a valid CBE volunteer security clearance, please contact Ms. Biggar at bebiggar@cbe.ab.ca

Grade 9 Immunization Forms Reminder

We are still missing Immunization forms for some Grade 9 students. Public Health nurses will be returning to the school in early April. Please ensure completed forms are brought back as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your cooperation.
