Good morning MSS families,

Here we go...day #1 of the 2026-2027 school year is tomorrow! Staff are extremely excited to welcome students back and get going. This weekly update has a great deal of information - please read the entire update. A few important points:

  • Homeroom emails were sent to families Friday, August 28 at ~3:00pm. The email may have gone to your junk folder - please check.
    • If you did not receive an email from your homeroom teacher, please let us know by emailing marshallsprings@cbe.ab.ca
    • As mentioned in previous communications - we are not accepting requests for homeroom changes.
      • We are currently over enrollment projections and are expecting more students in September - October.

First Day of School Information

On Monday, August 31 at 900am, all Grade 6 students and families (optional) will enter the building through the East Athletics doors - these are located by the staff parking lot.  Grade 6 students and families will meet in the main gym for a brief introduction with school administration before heading to our classroom for the day.  During day #1, students will receive their schedules, locks, lockers, meet all teachers and classmates, and also tour the school to begin to familiarize all things MSS.  There will be a number of MSS staff outside in the morning to help direct families where to go.

On Monday, August 31 at 900am, all Grade 7/8/9 students will enter the building through any entrance other than the East Athletics doors - these are located by the staff parking lot.  After entering the building, Grade 7/8/9 students will proceed to their homeroom class to start the day.  Homeroom lists will be posted throughout the school if students forget and/or don’t know their homeroom.  There will also be numerous staff in the halls to assist students.  During day #1, students will receive their schedules, locks, lockers, meet all teachers and classmates, and also tour the school to begin to familiarize all things MSS.

All students will need snacks for nutrition break and a lunch - there is no lunch service on day 1. Lunch service begins on September 2. Students can bring whatever school supplies they have as they will receive a lock and a locker from their homeroom teacher.

***Any student/family that did not receive a homeroom welcome email on Friday and/or do not appear on posted homeroom lists are asked to come to the main office. Getting kids registered in homerooms will be priority 1 on Monday***.

Lunch Time Structure and Information

The lunch period at MSS Monday-Thursday is 132-207pm. As Friday is an early dismissal day, there is not lunch period. Seating in the main foyer is available for all students Grade 6 through 9. The second floor of the school is closed at lunch unless a teacher is directly supervising a classroom/club/activity.

Grade 6 Students

  • There are CBE lunch supervision fees that will be assigned to all Grade 6 students/families.
  • You need to register your child for lunch supervision through your MyCBE account - please do so ASAP.
  • Must "sign-in" on lunch attendance sheets each day in the main foyer.
  • Have access to cafeteria services Monday-Thursday each week.
  • Grade 6 students have specific tables (no other grades allowed) to sit at. Students will eat inside for the first half of lunch and then are able to go outside (or stay on main floor) for the second half of lunch.
  • Grade 6 students are not allowed to leave school property at lunch unless parents/guardians have informed the school that their child goes home for lunch.

Grade 7/8/9 Students

  • Can enjoy lunch at tables in the main foyer (not Grade 6 tables), the main floor of the school, outside on school property, or off school property.
  • Have access to cafeteria services Monday-Thursday each week.
  • If Grade 7/8/9 students leave school property at lunch, student behaviour expectations and the CBE Student Code of Conduct still apply.
    • We are constantly in contact with local businesses to ensure that MSS students are being courteous and respectful to community members and local businesses.

Yellow School Bus Transportation

Registration for yellow school bus transportation began in may/June 2026. If you have not registered your child yet - please do so ASAP. Rosters will be finalized by bus companies in the near future. Students will not be able to ride school busses if they are not registered. You can register your child HERE. MSS School Council and Enrichment Society 2026-2027

The first meetings of the year will be held in September - more information to come shortly. We are always looking for interested parents/guardians to support the school through the council and enrichment society. Three important points:

  1. First meetings - September 2026 (TBD).
  2. Community Engagement Night - September 24.

  3. MSS Enrichment Society Casino Fundraiser.

Fall Athletics at MSS

We proudly participate in in all three activities in the fall athletics calendar. All information regarding coaches, try-out dates, practices, games, fees etc. can be found on our Athletics webpage. In order to participate, the annual athletic authorization form and all other forms attached to athletic events must be signed by parents/guardians and returned.

  • Cross-Country Running
    • Season begins September 1.
    • This is a no cut team.
  • Soccer (Girls and Boys Teams)
    • Season begins September 1.
    • These will be cut teams.
  • Basketball
    • Season begins September 8.
    • These will be cut teams.
    • Students who do not make these teams are able to participate in development sessions.

Bikes, eBikes, Scooters, Skateboards.

There is no indoor storage available for Bikes, eBikes, Scooters or Skateboards. Students who ride these to school can either lock them up at the racks in front of the school or at the racks at the back of the school. The school is not responsible for these items.

Cafeteria Information and Menu

Cafeteria service will begin on Tuesday, September 1. The special on this day will be $6.00 Fried Chicken and fries (Halal friendly).

MSS runs cafeteria service Monday-Thursday throughout the school year. The cafeteria has a rotating menu of hot and cold items for purchase. Students have the option to pay with cash and/or our POS machine.
